The Government of India, in consultation with the Union Territory administration of Ladakh, has identified 28 places and geographical features in the Union Territory by standard place and feature names on the official map of the Survey of India.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the formal identification of these places and features on the Survey of India map is aimed at facilitating their accurate recognition and creating greater awareness among the public.
The 28 places and features include peaks, mountains, passes, glaciers, valleys, rivers, lakes and other geographical features.
The list includes Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Karun Pir, Martand Giri, Zorawar Peak, Drak Karpo, Jolmori, Rinchen Zangpo, Sakyasri Giri, Marpa Lotsava Ri, Milarepa Kangri, Shiva Ri and Maheshvara Ri.
Other features identified include Brangsa, Kuksel, Dehra Compass, Gogra, Kumarayana Point, Panglung and Shamal Lungpa, classified as land areas.
The identified passes are Chapchingal Pass and Shachmirk Pass, while Parpik and Skamri Glacier have been identified as glaciers.
The list also includes Shkorga Valley, Guru Rinpoche Lake, Yangpa River and Hot Spring, classified respectively as a valley, lake, river and water body.
The Government said the additional places and features can be viewed on the Survey of India’s official map of Ladakh.
