India on Tuesday condemned an attack on the Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace off the coast of Oman that injured 12 crew members, including 11 Indian nationals, and called for an immediate end to attacks on shipping in the region.

The vessel, bearing IMO number 9893204, was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. Of its 19 crew members, 17 are Indian nationals.

The injured crew were evacuated with assistance from Omani authorities and are receiving medical treatment in Khasab, Oman. The MEA thanked the authorities for their support.

“The continuing incidents of attacks on shipping in the region remain a cause of deep concern for India,” the MEA said, reiterating its call for an immediate cessation of such attacks in the interests of regional peace and stability.

“The targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored at the earliest,” the Ministry added.
